This Month's Featured Project

Grace Presbyterian Church

  • Grace Presbyterian Church is located at 1009 15 Avenue S.W. Calgary. Our objective was to replace an existing low level pylon with a new design that compliments the visual aesthetics of the building. Our preliminary designs were aimed at potentially re-using the existing concrete base but this was eventually ruled out as the new structure had much greater weight demands than the previous signage. After viewing our initial designs the client decided on the monument style with decorative cross.

The design specifications originally called for a rock decor mounted to the pressure treated wooden frame with a pole running through the middle of the pylon for support and the cross as a custom decorative steel pole. Upon review, the cross became the functional support for the entire structure, with additional mounting support on the opposite end framed into the base of the monument. Further, the rock decor was changed to a textured stucco painted to match the colour of the building exterior. This design element was changed because the stucco achieved a similar look as the initially proposed rock decor and greatly reduced the overall weight and price of the signage.

The final install was completed in March, prior to Easter Weekend.
